This course addresses Florida Educator Accomplished Practices competency areas of Instructional Design and Lesson Planning, The Learning Environment, Instructional Delivery and Facilitation, Assessment, Continuous Professional Improvement, Professional Responsibility and Ethical Conduct. This course focuses on the foundation of American schools and what new teachers need to know and expect during their careers. Topics include history of American education, classical philosophies of education, school law, ethics and legal issues, characteristics of effective schools and commitments to continuous professional growth and improvement. Topics of multimedia applications in education including application and presentation software will be covered. The course will assist teachers in developing attitudes, skills and knowledge which will enable them to identify students who are Limited English Proficient (LEP) and to provide and justify effective instruction for LEP students.
