HSA 3430 - Health Care Economics
(3) (B.A.S.). Prerequisite: HSA 3111. This course will examine both the macro and microeconomic perspectives of health care. At the micro level, it will examine the production, marketing, distribution, pricing, and relative measures of quality of health care as it is delivered. Health care agencies and programs (Medicare, Medicaid, HMOS, PPOS, etc.), as well as topics such as the principle-agent problem, moral hazard and information problems on the demand side will be examined. On the supply side, issues such as managed care organizations, third-party payer systems, medical schooling, and malpractice insurance will be addressed. At the macro level, the course will examine the impact of health care practices on inflation, productivity, and the implications of an aging population on the national economy.
