Occupational Therapy Skills & Techniques I (4) (A.S.) Three hours lecture, three hours laboratory per week. Prerequisites: satisfactory completion of BSC 2085, DEP 2004, OTH 1001C, OTH 1014C. Corequisites: OTH 1520C. This course is designed to prepare the student to articulate and apply the therapeutic use of occupations with individuals or groups during the growth years (ages 0 – 21 years) to address the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, sensory and other aspects of performance in a variety of contexts and environments to support engagement in everyday life activities that affect health, well-being and quality of life. Lecture and laboratory activities utilize problem solving and critical thinking, communication skills and group/individual settings to focus on: activity analysis, facilitation/inhibition techniques; activities of daily living; gross and fine motor activities; behavioral control techniques; orthotics; adaptive/assistive equipment; and competency in selecting, implementing and instructing interventions/activities with children of varying functional level throughout the growth years. Laboratory practice provides the opportunity apply theoretical concepts to practice situations. Additional special fees are required.
