PAD 3820 - Foundations of Public Safety Administration |
(3) (B.A.S.). This course must be taken in the students first semester in the public safety administration BAS program. This course is an overview of the primary aspects of public safety administration. Major administrative, managerial and leadership components of public safety organizations are examined. Also addressed are administrative concerns for special issues and challenges, such as coordinated public safety approaches, post-9/11 administrative worldviews, ethical foundations, critical thinking and analysis, and innovative solutions for pragmatic public safety problems. The course will also provide the student with a framework for individual progress. This will include an initial supervisor/leadership/ management skills assessment; the beginning development of an individualized development plan toward educational and career goals, with a personal portfolio; and preliminary planning to link continuous learning with the capstone course at the end of the program.
