Learning Objectives: Course Description (2) (A.A) One hour per week. One-on-one instruction designed to develop fundamentals of reading music, technical skills and performance of elementary-level classical music. Includes study of scales, chords and arpeggios. Final examination consists of prepared program of technique and literature performed for the instructor. Additional special fees are required. Performance Standards At the successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Perform three solo compositions from the standard classical repertoire at the elementary level. 2. Produce pitch with a tone quality idiomatic for the instrument. 3. Perform major and minor scales (harmonic and melodic forms). 4. Perform with efficient technique. 5. Maintain good posture and position while performing. 6. Maintain rhythmic and pitch accuracy while reading music. 7. Perform with good intonation. 8. Exhibit proper phrasing. 9. Perform with stylistic expression. Meeting Times To be arranged. Student is responsible to contact the teacher if unable to attend lesson. Instructor is obligated to reschedule only those lessons missed by the instructor. Excessive absences may result in student being dropped from the course or lowering of final grade. Grading Policy Student will be graded on Attendance (20%),Technique (30%), Literature (30%), Final exam (20%). Students are expected to progess. Attendance Policy Students are expected to make up missed lessons. Students are allowed one excused missed lesson that is not made up. Excuse must be in writing. The validity of the excused absence is at the sole discretion of the instructor. Students must call instructor at least twenty four hours in advance of a missed lesson unless there is an unavoidable emergency. Otherwise the lesson may not be made up. Students will earn one (1) point for every lesson fully attended. An unexcused absence will result in no points earned. .1 points will be deducted for every five (5) minutes the student is tardy. Exam Policy Final examination consists of prepared program of technique and literature performed for the instructor.
Required Materials: Text and Music provided by instructor.
Technical Requirements: Cd player.
