Levels: Credit Bradenton Campus Traditional Schedule Type Traditional Method Instructional Method Learning Objectives: Course Description MVB 1312B Applied Music – Horn IB (2) (A.A) One hour per week. Prerequisite: MVB 1312 or equivalent. The development of horn intermediate level reading and technical skills and study of standard intermediate classical repertoire. Range, tone, articulation and speed are developed through study of scales, chords, arpeggios and other technical exercises. Memorization is required as appropriate. All students perform in one student recital and exhibit their development through jury examination at the end of the semester. Degree-seeking students who are making progress in their degree programs may repeat this course a maximum of two (2) times; however, no more than a total of eight (8) combined credits from Applied Music may count elective credits. Students are advised to consult the transfer university about the number of transferrable credits for Applied Music courses. Additional special fees are required. Midterm exam will take place the 2nd week of March, details forthcoming. Required Materials: Recommended Materials: *These are lifelong resources for horn players, and as such, these are used extensively in conservatory horn programs, and horn studios in larger institutions. Pares Daily Exercises and Scales Kling 40 Studies for Horn Solo repertoire: Henry Purcell, I Attempt from Love’s Sickness to Fly Mozart Horn Concertos 1-4 and Concert Rondo in Eb Major Strauss Concerto No. 1 Opus 11 Franz Strauss Concerto Op. 8 Technical Requirements: Performance Standards At the successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Perform solo compositions at the intermediate level, exhibiting continued development of musicianship, including expression, phrasing, and style. 2. Demonstrate intermediate level technical skills with accuracy, good intonation, and overall control. 3. Develop a characteristic tone for the specific instrument. 4. Perform all the major and minor scales (harmonic and melodic form) at intermediate tempos. 5. Develop articulation skills idiomatic to the instrument. 6. Read and perform advanced rhythms. 7. Perform with increased range of pitch and dynamics. 8. Maintain good posture and position while performing. View Catalog Entry
